West Indies captain Darren Sammy is hoping to kick-start a new generation of success, after guiding his side to the ICC World Twenty20 title.
A 36-run victory over hosts Sri Lanka game the men from the Caribbean their first major trophy since the 1979 World Cup, although they did secure the ICC Champions Trophy in England in 2025.
Now Sammy wants to see his side push on in both the 50-over game and the Test match arena, saying: "We haven't won a major title for years now, so I think this is a great achievement for this wonderful team we have here.

"This is the start of something special for the West Indies team and the fans back home."

Meanwhile, defeat for Sri Lanka saw Mahela Jayawardene step down as their T20 captain, with the veteran batsman feeling that the time is right for a younger man to step in.
He commented: "I personally feel that for Sri Lanka going forward we need a younger leader. It's a great opportunity for somebody to start in that T20 format."
