Tricast Bets:

Forecasts
A forecast bet is one where you predict the first and second in a horse or greyhound race. For details of the sources used for forecast dividends, and additional rules relating to forecast betting please see our Rules for Horse Racing and Greyhounds.

Straight Forecast (SFC)
This bet involves 2 selections in 1 race finishing 1st and 2nd in the order named. A Straight Forecast (FC or SFC) dividend is declared based on the Starting Prices (SPs) of all the horses in the race. (A Straight Forecast is known in many countries as an Exacta).
- e.g. 1.20 Lingfield
- Selection 1 - Pistol - Selection 2 - Dizzy
- N. of Bets - 1
The first named selection (Pistol) must be placed first and the second named selection (Dizzy) must be placed 2nd for this bet to win.
The forecast dividend shown at the end of a race is to a stake of 1.

Reverse Forecast (RFC)
This bet involves 2 selections in 1 race finishing 1st and 2nd in either order. As such there are 2 bets involved - two straight forecast bets.

- e.g. 1.20 Lingfield

- Selection 1 - Pistol
- Selection 2 - Dizzy
- N. of Bets - 2

The named selections can finish first and second in either order.

Straight Forecast Doubles
SFC Doubles are staked in exactly the same way as ordinary doubles. The only difference is that you take 2 selections per race.

- e.g. 1.20 Lingfield

- Selection 1 - Pistol
- Selection 2 - Dizzy

- 1.30 Southwell

- Selection 1 - Mr Magoo
- Selection 2 - Tamara

N. of bets - 1

Both forecast predictions must be successful for there to be any return.

Straight Forecast Trebles
SFC Trebles are staked in exactly the same way as ordinary trebles. The only difference is that you take 2 selections per race.

- e.g. 1.20 Lingfield

- Selection 1 - Pistol
- Selection 2 - Dizzy

- 1.30 Southwell

- Selection 1 - Mr Magoo
- Selection 2 - Tamara

- 1.40 Ascot

- Selection 1 - Knight Error
- Selection 2 - Bob's Return

- N. of bets - 1

All three forecast predictions must be successful for there to be any return.

It is always the number of races that determines the number of doubles and trebles.

Reversed Forecast Doubles
A RFC Double consists of 4 individual doubles.
- T 1 x 2 1.09 Hove
- T 5 x 6 1.24 Hove
This breaks down into the following possible forecast doubles:
1 2 3 4
Race 1 1 x 2 1 x 2 2 x 1 2 x 1
Race 2 5 x 6 6 x 5 5 x 6 6 x 5
The number of RFC doubles can be calculated by multiplying the number of doubles in the total number of races by 4.

Reversed Forecast Trebles
A RFC Treble consists of 8 individual trebles.
-i.e.
- T 1 x 2 1.09 Hove
- T 5 x 6 1.24 Hove
- T 3 x 4 1.39 Hove
This breaks down into the following possible forecast trebles:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Race 1 1 x 2 1 x 2 2 x 1 2 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 2 2 x 1 2 x 1
Race 2 5 x 6 6 x 5 5 x 6 6 x 5 5 x 6 6 x 5 5 x 6 6 x 5
Race 3 3 x 4 3 x 4 3 x 4 3 x 4 4 x 3 4 x 3 4 x 3 4 x 3
The number of RFC trebles can be calculated by multiplying the number of trebles in the total number of races by 8.

Combination Forecasts
This bet involves 3 or more selections in a race, with any 2 to finish 1st and 2nd in any order
- e.g.
- 3.20 Lingfield
- Dizzy
- Pistol
- Stomp
10 Combination forecast (or CFC) = 60

That's 6 x 10 Forecasts
1st 2nd
Dizzy Pistol
Dizzy Stomp
Pistol Dizzy
Pistol Stomp
Stomp Dizzy
Stomp Pistol
The easiest way to calculate the number of bets in a CFC is: No. of Selections x Preceding number
So, for 3 selections, 3 x 2 = 6
If you picked 5 selections in a race, you would have 20 combination forecast bets (5 x 4 = 20).

Combination Forecast Doubles & Trebles
Combination Forecast (CFC) Doubles give you a better chance of getting a winning Forecast Double or Forecast Treble because you choose more than 2 selections in each race. To win you must have included the first two finishers in 2 races for doubles or 3 races for trebles.
DOUBLES TREBLES
Number of Races 2 dogs Straight 2 dogs Reversed 2 dogs Straight 2 dogs Reversed
1
2 1 4
3 3 12 1 8
4 6 24 4 32
5 10 40 10 80
6 15 60 20 160
7 21 84 35 280
8 28 112 56 448
9 36 144 84 672
10 45 180 120 960
11 55 220 165 1320
12 66 264 220 1760
13 78 312 286 2288
14 91 364 364 2912
20 190 760 1140 9120
22 231 924 1540 12320
24 276 1104 2024 16192
26 325 1300 2600 20800
36 630 2520 7140 57120

In all cases, it is the number of races that determines the number of doubles and trebles.

Tricasts
Tricast betting is generally offered in handicap races of 8 or more runners, where full race by race results are announced by SIS and from time to time, in certain other races providing the result and return are announced by SIS.

Straight Tricasts
This bet involves 3 selections in a race finishing first, second and third in the order named. (The closest equivalent to a Tricast in many countries is a Trifecta or a Tierce).
- e.g. 3.40 Ascot

- Selection 1 - Magoo
- Selection 2 - Ashinta
- Selection 3 - Daisy

- N. of Bets - 1

The selections must finish in the order you specify for any returns.

Combination Tricasts
This bet involves 3 selections in a race finishing first, second and third in any order.

- e.g. 3.40 Ascot

- Selection 1 - Magoo
- Selection 2 - Ashinta
- Selection 3 - Daisy
- Selection 4 - Warfield

To calculate the number of bets in a Combination Tricast (CTC) the formula is:

N. of selections x 2 preceding numbers

In the example above, a 10 CTC would cost 240. This is calculated as (4 selections x 3 x 2) x 10.

Permutations
It is also possible to 'perm' selections. For example, if you have made 3 selections (A, B and C) you can 'perm' all the possible doubles. In this case all the doubles possible are AB, AC, and BC; a total of 3 individual bets, or lines.

Similarly, if you have made 4 selections (A, B, C and D) you can also 'perm' all the possible doubles from these four. Now the doubles are AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, CD; a total of 6 individual bets, or lines.
