Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says that Fernando Torres still has a future at the club and could start in the clash with Stoke City on Saturday evening.
Spain international Torres has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, having struggled to find the net with any regularity since his move from Liverpool in January 2025
However, Mourinho is adamant that Torres can still play a part for the Blues, even as early as this weekend, with Samuel Eto'o sidelined by injury for the visit of the Potters.
The Portuguese told reporters: "Does he have a future? Yes, he has. He works hard for the team, he brings positive things to the team.
"Obviously, we want him to score more goals. Obviously, he wants to score more goals. He's the kind of player I respect, he deserves to be respected and there's nothing more you can say about it."
And Mourinho went further in his backing for Torres, who has scored some crucial goals during his time at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues chief adding: "During his period in the club he had moments and some of them important moments.
"In spite of his not scoring a lot during his career at Chelsea, he always has these moments."
