Micah Richards admits he faces a major fight to establish himself as England's first-choice right-back over the coming years.
The powerful Manchester City defender has been in impressive form this season and is in contention to fill the slot when England take on Montenegro on Friday evening.
England are6.00 to win 1-0 on Friday, while a 2-2 draw is at 19.00. A 1-0 win for the hosts can be backed at 11.00.
Richards, who became an international regular under previous England boss Steve McClaren, has so far struggled to convince Fabio Capello, with the Italian omitting him from numerous squads over the last two years.
But the 23-year-old has found himself back in favour thanks to his club displays and although happy to be back in the fold, is quick to recognise the challenges which still lie ahead for him.
Richards insists: "People always say there aren't that many right-backs, but Chris Smalling is doing a good job for Manchester United. I rate Glenn Johnson and Kyle Walker's been doing very well at Tottenham.
"I do think I am twice the player that I was when I made my England debut at the age of 19. There's no reason why I can't get in there but it's about biding my time."
