It was a good night for teams called the Rangers as the New York variety knocked off the Jets 2-1 in Winnipeg.
Ryan Callahan scored on the power play midway through the third period, assisted by Rusian Fedotenko and Dan Girardi, after Chris Thorburn had been penalized for tripping a minute earlier.
Fedotenko had himself earlier scored, also on the power play, to give the Rangers the lead before Nik Antropov had replied for the Jets. New York still trail the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers in the Atlantic divisional standings.
Rangers are24.00 to win the Eastern Conference while the Penguins can be backed at4.00 and the Flyers at 6.00.
Chris Mason faced only 17 shots in the Winnipeg net as the Jets out-shot their opponents 28-17, but the Rangers made their power play opportunities count converting two of five while Winnipeg did not convert when Fedotenko was called for holding the stick of Benjamin Maxwell in the first.
Veteran backup Martin Biron picked up the win for the Rangers substituting for Henrik Lundqvist in goal.
