Manchester City have been boosted by the news Sergio Aguero should be back in action by mid-February.
The striker had to leave the field on a stretcher after taking a blow to his right knee during the 3-2 victory over Southampton at the Etihad on Saturday and it was feared he could be out of action for a number of months.
However, the Argentinian, who scored 23 league goals last season, has avoided serious injury and is targeting a return against Stoke on 15th January, following the international break. He is now9.00to finish this season as the league's top scorer, while team-mate Carlos Tevez is at 8.50.
"I don't think Sergio will be out for long and we are hoping he will be back after the international break which is obviously fantastic news for him and for us," City boss Roberto Mancini told the club's official website.
"We were very worried a couple of days ago because we feared he could be out for six months or maybe even more which would have been very bad news.
"It looked like a very strange injury at the time and because it was his knee, we were obviously very concerned so this news is a relief for everybody."
Mancini also confirmed Gareth Barry and Micah Richards could return around the same time as Aguero, after recovering from their respective hernia and ankle problems.
