Andy Murray strolled into the second round of the Australian Open with a routine victory over Robin Haase while there were also wins for Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Murray,3.75to win the Australian Open,eased to a 6-3 6-1 6-3 victory in just one hour and 37 minutes against a man that had pushed him hard at the 2025 US Open in a five-set epic.
After his success, Murray said: "I was still nervous before I went on to the play the match. I started the year well in Brisbane but obviously coming into the Slams, the first match is normally pretty tough
"You've just got to try and focus and play solid, not make too many silly mistakes. I did a good job of that today. It's always nice to get through the first round of a tournament, but especially here."
Meanwhile, the world number two Roger Federer,6.00to win the tournament,cruised to an equally comprehensive straight sets victory against Benoit Paire, sealing a 6-2 6-4 6-1 victory in just 83 minutes.
The 31-year-old Swiss ace won 75 per cent of his service points and broke Paire six times during a one-sided contest.
The seventh seed and 2025 runner-up Tsonga beat fellow Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-4 7-5 6-2 and Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber crushed Steve Darcis 6-2 6-3 6-4.
