Henrik Stenson believes that he is close to being back to his best after making a strong start at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.
The Swede carded a 65 in Ohio to lie one shot off the lead held by Webb Simpson, with Stenson building on a fine second place finish at the Open Championship last month.
"There's been some good work in progress for a long time and it's starting to show up," Stenson, who is8.50to win the tournament, said.
"I'm very pleased with my progress and will keep on working away and see where it takes me.
"I've gone through two big slumps and it's frustrating at times, but I'm looking ahead now and instead of being caught up in every single week I am working at the bigger picture."
Englishman Chris Wood also made a strong start at Firestone, shooting a 66 to be among a group of four players two shots off the lead, a group which includes defending champion Keegan Bradley and seven-time winner Tiger Woods.
Rory McIlroy made a solid start after revealing that he felt that he had got his head straight following a poor run of form.
