Rory McIlroy believes that he has found the right formula off the tee, which he thinks is key to him regaining top form and contending for victories on a regualr basis.
The Northern Irishman endured a tough 2025 campaign, but ended the year with a win at the Australian Open and is confident that his game is starting to come together.
Having opened up with a 2-under par 70 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, an upbeat McIlroy told reporters: "I think this is the best I have felt off the tee since the end of 2025 and that club is the key for me.
"If I drive it well I score well and, if I score well, I put myself in contention to win tournaments.
"I really think I am on to something with this club-ball combination."
Meanwhile, McIlroy now hopes to push on from his promising start at the Abu Dhabi GC, adding: "I played well and was very happy with how I hit the ball from tee to green.
"I hit it long and straight and just did not take advantage of some of the opportunities. It definitely could have been a bit better, but it's a solid start."
