New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has reiterated that he will not rush into making new additions to his squad.

The Dutchman took charge at Old Trafford after leading the Netherlands to the semi-finals of the World Cup and has used the same 3-4-1-2 formation with United in their pre-season games against LA Galaxy and Romathat he used with his national side in Brazil.

United have already splashed out around 56million on Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera but more new arrivals are expected.

Van Gaal has been linked with a number of players since his switch back into club management with United but the 62-year-old is prepared to take his time over his transfer business.

"I don't buy players for buying players. I buy players to improve my selection," he told the BBC.

Van Gaal revealed he is keen to use the 3-4-1-2 system as it will allow him to play the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata at the same time, but he feels he already has plenty of options in the attacking positions.

"That is one argument why I chose this system. I can play them all - that is important," Van Gaal said on his current options. "With the quality of the squad I choose this system.

"But don't forget all the others. Javier Hernandez can play in the striker's position, Danny Welbeck can, maybe Will Keane also. He can develop himself.

"Rooney can play at 10 and nine. He said to me he can also play seven and 11. But I like him more at nine or 10."

He added: "We have to see if the selection is in balance and how we can improve it. Not only by training but also transfers.

"I am always looking first to my players because the players are the most important thing in the club."
