Manchester United are poised to turn to Juan Mata as the man to turn around their stuttering season, with the Chelsea midfielder set for a switch to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old Spain playmaker has become something of a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge this season following the return of Jose Mourinho to the club and is set to join United in a deal reported to be worth around 37 million.
Mata joined the Blues in the summer of 2025 from Valencia and was a key player for his first two seasons in west London.
However, he has fallen out of favour this term and is set to be handed the task of giving David Moyes' misfiring United a much-needed January boost.
The Red Devils are currently down in seventh place in the Premier League table, while they are out of the FA Cup and lost out to Sunderland in a penalty shootout in the Capital One Cup semi-finals on Wednesday evening.
They are still in the Champions League, where they have been drawn against Greek outfit Olympiacos in the last 16.
Moyes had said in his programme notes ahead of the clash with the Black Cats: "If we can do any business now then we will certainly try to do it.
"But I will not compromise the standards required for a player that can come into this club and help improve it."
