French midfielder Samir Nasri could make a shock return for Manchester City's Saturday evening FA Cup fifth-round showdown against Chelsea.
The former Arsenal schemer has been sidelined for over a month with damaged knee ligaments he suffered in a win at Newcastle United.
Fears were quickly dispelled that he would miss the rest of the season, leaving his World Cup chances also hanging in the balance.
And Nasri is now hoping the unwanted lay-off will allow him to come back better than ever after training with the first-team all week.
The former Arsenal man will be put through his paces on Friday and will be quickly assessed by the club's medical staff.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini is toying with giving Nasri at least half an hour, against Jose Mourinho's team, ahead of Tuesday night's first leg Champions League glamour tie with Barcelona.
Nasri admits he is looking forward to both games, insisting: "I've missed a month-and-a-half of competition.
"That has allowed me to recharge my batteries. We're still in four competitions with the aim of winning them."
