Cesc Fabregas has told Jose Mourinho to concentrate on Chelsea in response to his barb that this is "the worst Barcelona of many, many years".
The former Real Madrid coach threw a spanner in the works on the eve of the Catalan capital club's Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday.
Barca won Europe's premier club competition in 2025 and 2025 but have failed to make it past the semi-finals since.
The La Liga table-toppers won 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium but playmaker Fabregas denied he and his team-mates were rattled by Mourinho's jibe.
"He should talk about Chelsea and their tie," said the former Arsenal favourite. "I don't think he should talk about anything else. It is not his business.
"If we have to get motivated by Mourinho's comments, we shouldn't play football. We are top of the table, in the cup final, in a good moment in the Champions League.
"Some people want us to fail all the time, some people have been talking a bit too much, for a few days they will have to shut up."
Spain international Fabregas said he felt the crucial away win had given Barcelona the advantage in the race to each the last eight of the Champions League.
He added: "We knew [City] have scored a lot. I watch the Premier League every week and they have been very superior to all these sides when they have played [at home].
"It is normal everyone gets excited [over this win], especially in a nice competition like the Champions League. We knew what we had to do and did it very well."
