Australia's Adam Scott paid tribute to his caddie after firing a superb 62 to lead the way after the first round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Scott is eight-under par after a perfect start at Firestone left him one shot ahead of compatriot Jason Day and three ahead of home golfer Nick Watney.
Afterwards, Scott was fulsome in his praise of Steve Williams, the former bag-carrier for Tiger Woods, telling the PGA's official website: "I think he really understands how to manage a game well around the golf course.
"I think he believes in my game, that I can be one of the best players in the world.
"I think he thinks he can help me achieve that and I believe that too. Everything is very positive with Steve so far."
Former world number one Woods was in confident mood himself after returning to action after injury with a solid round of 68, to lie six shots back from Scott.
He admitted afterwards: "As anybody who's been off and who's been injured, first time back, it's a little nervous to see what happens.
"But my practice sessions were good, so there's no reason why I should be worried out there. I went out there and just let it go, let it rip and see what happens."
