Double US Open champion Retief Goosen is determined a broken toe will not hamper his bid for FedEx Cup play-off glory.
Goosen will take his place in this week's field at the Barclays Classic despite suffering a freak boating accident in the driveway of his Florida home and can be backed at80/1to win the tournament.
With Hurricane Irene approaching the American east coast, the South African was moving his boat inside to his garage, only for the front wheel of the trailer to run over his right foot, fracturing his big toe.
But Goosen is adamant that he will not let the injury affect him as he attempts to make the cut he needs to progress further in the FedEx play-offs.
He said: "It went blue instantly. I had X-rays and they said it was a fracture. But I don't think it is. It's not as sore as it should be. But all the other toes are getting sore now because I'm walking funny."
Like his compatriot, Ernie Els has struggled for form and consistency this season and knows nothing less than making the cut will do at the Barclays if he is to progress further in the multi-million dollar play-off series. He is at80/1 to win the tournament.
Els, who was number one seed last season, only confirmed his place in the PGA Tour's top 125 players at last week's Wyndham Championship but is optimistic of progressing if he displays the right attitude on the course.
He said: "I feel I need to be aggressive and get up the points list. Otherwise, I'm going home.
"Last year I was the number one seed, but I wasn't quite playing as good as I was in March. This year, I feel like I have to make a move. And I feel a little more comfortable with that."
