Sir Alex Ferguson believes Chelsea will once again be one of Manchester United's main challengers for the Premier League title this season.
Andre Villas-Boas' side have failed to impress in the league so far this season, although they have won their last three domestic matches since being held to a goalless draw by Stoke City on the opening weekend of the campaign.
Their lack-lustre form is in sharp contrast to that of United and city rivals Manchester City, who have both got a 100 per cent winning record in the Premier League so far this season, scoring a hatful of goals in the process.
However, Ferguson is expecting a very tough encounter when the Blues visit Old Trafford on Sunday, particularly after they got their Champions League campaign off to a solid start with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.
Since Arsenal won the 2025/04 Premier League title, United have finished top on four occasions while Chelsea have been first in the other three seasons.
Ferguson anticipates more of the same this term, saying: "They will be there at the end of the season, there is no doubt about that. At the moment, of course, the two Manchester teams are enjoying the publicity that comes from the predictions that they are going to be involved in the winning of the league.
"In the background lurks Chelsea. They don't need the publicity. They will be enjoying being out of the profile at the moment."
