Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen has handed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger a major boost by signing a new long-term contract with the club.
The 25-year-old, who joined the Gunners from Ajax in January 2025 for 10million, has scored seven goals in 40 Premier League appearances for the club, but missed most of last season with an Achilles injury.
This term, he has not played since 24th January but is about to return to full training, and is looking forward to helping the Gunners climb the Premier League table.
After penning the new deal, Vermaelen said: "I feel there is a big belief from the club, from the boss and from the fans and that is one of the reasons why I stayed.
"I feel great here, it's a fantastic club and that is why I want to stay here. I played my first year here, had a big injury last year and then got injured again. I want to show something back to the club and to the fans and that is why I want to stay longer."
Despite making a poor start to the campaign, the Gunners moved back into the top half of the Premier League table after beating Sunderland 2-1 on Sunday and are now5/2to finish in the top four.
They face Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday, a match they are11/1to win 2-1 while the French side can be backed at13/2to edge the game 1-0. A goalless draw is available at9/1.
