Michael Carrick has delivered a warning to the rest of Manchester United's title challengers that they won't give up their crown without a fight.

The United midfielder scored his first goal since January 2010 as he set the seal on an impressive display in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Queen's Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

That result moved Sir Alex Ferguson's side in to top spot in the Premier League - before rivals Manchester City delivered their own defiant message a few hours later, reinstating their current two-point advantage with a win over Arsenal.

United now remain in the capital for Wednesday's clash against Fulham, but in the last couple of years Craven Cottage has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Red Devils. United are7/1to win the game 2-0 and are now15/8to be Premier League champions this season.

Last season, the Old Trafford men blew a two-goal advantage and missed a penalty as the Cottagers came storming back in injury-time to earn an unlikely 3-3 draw.

But according to Carrick, nobody should begin to doubt the focus of United in the coming weeks and they have every intention of keeping the pressure on the likes of City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Carrick says: "People have been writing us off but we are looking strong and we are happy with the way we are going. There is still a long way to go. I have to admit we were wary at half-time against Rangers because the game was still on a knife-edge.

"It was great for me to score and we had more chances to make it more comfortable and, hopefully, that is something we will work on and improve."
