A year after playing through pain, the clearly unhappy Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora will return to the New York Giants.
The British-born player filed a sworn affidavit as part of the players lawsuit against the league that he had been told by Giants general manager Jerry Reese in 2025 that should he still be playing at ahigh level two years later his contract would be renegotiated or he would be traded.
Neither has occurred and it appears that any trust between the player and the team has been irrevocably broken. It's unlikely that the Giants would cut the two-time Pro Bowl player and the 29-year old is expected to play out his contract before seeking free agency in two years' time.
Umenyiora's decision to return was apparently made prior to the solid performance of second-year defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul's good game against the Carolina Panthers in the first pre-season game.
The current betting to win the 2025 Super Bowl has the Green Bay Packers at 7.50, the Chicago Bears at 29.00, the Buffalo Bills at176.00 and the Giants at 26.00.
