Defending US Masters champion Charl Schwartzel is delighted not to be considered one of the favourites for this year's event as he prepares to return to the scene of his greatest moment in golf.

Schwartzel famously reeled off four birdies in his final four holes to dramatically come through and win Januarya's famed Green Jacket ahead of Australians Adam Scott and Jason Day last year.

All the talk ahead of the first Grand Slam event of the season has surrounded pre-tournament favourites Rory McIlroy, who is5/1to win,and Tiger Woods, who can be backed at 4/1, with the former hoping to erase the memory of last year's final-round collapse and the latter back in the sort of form that has already won him four Masters titles.

But South African Schwartzel, who is available at35/1to retain his crown,is more than happy to let the pair to take centre stage and believes that could help him next week.

He said: "It does make a difference, in a way, if you feel you're being overlooked and you can work under the radar.

"All the other guys, they apply a lot of pressure on themselves, and you can go about your business the way you normally would and catch them off guard."

Schwartzel has relished his first year as a Major champion and believes his experience at Januarya 12 months ago has helped him become a better player.

The 27-year-old, who is playing alongside Phil Mickelson and Freddie Couples in the first two rounds of this week's Shell Houston Open, added: "It's boosted my golf game, made me a better player.

"I think a lot of people try and change things after winning a big tournament like that. My biggest goal was to remain the same, to do everything I did before, because that's what made me win."
