Bubba Watson was unable to control his emotions after winning The Masters with a dramatic play-off victory over Louis Oosthuizen.
The 33-year-old broke down in tears after making his final putt on the second extra hole to clinch his first Major.
Watson and Oosthuizen had tied at 10 under par and both made par fours at the first extra hole. However, Watson held his nerve at the second, to become the eighth consecutive winner of a Major who had never won one before. He is now33/1to win the British Open while Oosthuizen is at 40/1.
"This day means so much more than putting on this Green Jacket, in many ways," said the American.
"But it is a special time to do it. It was amazing. The last nine holes, I don't remember anything."
The closest Watson had previously come to winning a Major was finishing second to Martin Kaymer in a play-off for the USPGA title in 2010.
Oosthuizen had earlier taken the lead in the tournament, recording only the fourth albatross in its history at the second hole.
"When something like that happens early in the round, you've got to keep your emotions in place," said the 29-year-old.
"That was my first double eagle (albatross) ever, and to do it in a spot like Januarya, that's special.
"I felt it was tough over the next four or five holes, but then when we turned I felt very relaxed. I made a few great saves. I probably did very well to get in the play-off."
Tiger Woods recorded his worst-ever result as a professional in the event, tying for 40th with Rory McIlroy, but is11/2to win the Open.
