Barry Geraghty is keeping his fingers crossed not too much rain falls between now and Saturday as he prepares to round off a brilliant season with a top Grand National ride on Nicky Henderson's Shakalakaboomboom.
With the likes of Simonsgig and Sprinter Sacre, Lyvius, Tanks for That and Spirit River in his locker, this could be as big a week for the Irishman as Cheltenham, where he was top jockey. Shakalakaboomboom is18/1to triumph on Saturday while Seabass is18/1and Chicago Grey is14/1.
Shakalakaboomboom likes goodish ground although Geraghty - eyeing the rain falling - declared: "He can handle it if it's on the slow side."
Geraghty - a winner of the race nine years ago on Monty's Pass - has also been in the first four on five other occasions in the 11 attempts he's had at the world's premier steeplechase.
He said: "Shakalakaboomboom was sixth in the Topham last year and was staying on at the end. He then went to Punchestown and ran well. He has to have a big chance this year!"
He can't wait to get up on the amazing Arkle Chase winner Sprinter Sacre again, declaring: "He's the best jumper and traveller in a race I can remember riding. He's an absolute natural and is going to be a superstar if he's not already."
