Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers is set to be named as the new manager of Liverpool, after holding talks with the Anfield club on Wednesday afternoon.
Rodgers emerged as the strong favourite to take charge of the Reds after Wigan Athletic's Roberto Martinez was reported to have turned down the job following discussions with the club's owners earlier in the week.
Martinez has since pledged his future to the Latics, having also been linked with the managerial vacancy at Aston Villa.
Rodgers led the Swans to 11th place in the Premier League last season, while the Reds finished down in eighth place.
Rodgers has been in charge at the Liberty Stadium for two years, leading his club to promotion to the top-flight in his first season, before they shocked many pundits by staying well clear of the relegation dogfight last term.
The 39-year-old Northern Irishman had previously had spells in charge of both Reading and Watford, having earlier gained experience as part of the Chelsea backroom staff.
He had earlier turned down the chance to speak to the Reds, but had a re-think as the attraction of the Anfield post grew greater, with a three-year contract reported to be on offer.
