Brendan Rodgers says he is ready for the challenge of taking Liverpool forward after being officially unveiled as the club's new manager on Friday morning.
The former Swansea boss insists he was the club's number one choice to replace Kenny Dalglish and has the experience to make a success of the role.
"Once I found out I was the number one target, it was an easy decision. Even though I'm young in age, I have been coaching and working in football for 20 years," he told a press conference.
"At Chelsea I had the experience of working with big players. Kenny Dalglish was the manager here at 34 and resigned at 39. He won three league titles and two FA Cups."
He added: "Overall it is a long-term situation. That was important to me for a project that is over a number of years. For me it is about the principles of the club, which is to play attractive football. The realism is that we might not be ready for the title now. But the process begins now."
"The style of football Brendan is associated with is exactly what we want to see at Anfield. Aggressive, attacking play; Swansea were a revelation last season with their brand of entertaining football," said Liverpool chairman Tom Werner.
"But it's not just what he has achieved in the last two years that has impressed us; he has dedicated his career to coaching, has studied the game all over Europe and he is the perfect person to take this club forward."
Rodgers becomes Liverpool's the fourth managerial appointment in the last two years following the departures of Rafael Benitez, Roy Hodgson and Dalglish. He will be joined by a number of his Swansea backroom staff, with assistant Colin Pascoe, performance analyst Chris Davies and head of sports science and medicine Glen Driscoll taking up positions at Anfield.
Owners Fenway Sports Group will be looking for a marked improvement in league form following Liverpool's eighth-place finish last season, which left them 17 points off the top four. The club are3.00to finish in the top four in 2025/13, and are29.00to lift the Premier League title.
