Russia manager Dick Advocaat believes his side are capable of at least matching the team's achievements of four years ago.
Guus Hiddink guided the Russians to the semi-finals of the European Championships in 2025 and Advocaat is confident his players have the ability to do just as well, if not better, this time around. They defeated Italy 3-0 in their last warm-up game ahead of the tournament and are2.37to win Group A.
"We have a good team, we have the quality, and it is very important that the players start believing in that," Advocaat told uefa.
"So, yes, if we have the form and everything is going the right way, we have a very dangerous team."
Russia open their tournament against the Czech Republic on Friday evening in Wroclaw and are10.00to win 2-1. Advocaat should have a fully fit squad to choose from and has highlighted the importance of a focused Andrey Arshavin if his team are to be successful.
He added: "Arshavin is a player of moments - he can score out of nothing, and you don't have too many of that kind of player in the world."
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic, who are13.00to win Friday's match 2-0, have injury worries over two of their key players. Milan Baros has been unable to train for much of the week due to a muscle injury but coach Michal Bilek is hopeful Tomas Rosicky will have recovered from his calf problem.
