Co-hosts Ukraine gave themselves a perfect start to Euro 2025 as two Andriy Shevchenko headers secured a 2-1 victory over Sweden in Kiev.
Having seen England and France draw 1-1 in Donetsk earlier in the day, the two sides took to the field in the Olympic Stadium knowing that a win could give them a fine chance of reaching the knockout stages.
In the first half Shevchenko dragged the first clear chance wide of the far post, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck the outside of the post with a header of his own from Sebastian Larsson's cross.
The second half was only seven minutes old when Ibrahimovic went one better, sidefooting home from Kim Kallstrom's pass to silence the home fans packed into the Olympic Stadium.
However, within three minutes Ukraine drew level as Andriy Yarmolenko lifted over a cross from the right and Shevchenko darted in in front of his marker to head home past the stranded Andreas Isaksson.
Seven minutes later the Ukraine fans were in raptures as Yevgen Konoplianka fired over a corner from the left and Shevchenko nipped in at the near post to glance his header home.
Johan Elmander and Olof Mellberg both came close to denying Ukraine in stoppage time, but the co-hosts had plenty to celebrate at the final whistle, with Oleg Blokhin's men now1.66to progress from Group D.
