Arsenal say they will respect Robin van Persie's decision not to extend his Gunners contract and expect him to 'fulfil his commitments'.
The 28-year-old, who has one year left on his deal, announced on Wednesday he would not be staying on at the Emirates Stadium. He cited a clear desire to win trophies as his primary reason to move on and insisted he had not even discussed money with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
The Holland international is being linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City, while the likes of Juventus, Paris St Germain and even Manchester United are all said to be keeping a watching brief on last season's PFA Player of the Year.
However, a statement on Arsenal's official website hints at the player staying on at the club for the forthcoming season, despite the prospect of losing out on a huge transfer fee, with City reported to be preparing a 20million bid.
"We have to respect Robin's decision not to renew his contract," said the club.
"Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the club.
"We are planning with ambition and confidence for next season with Arsenal's best interests in mind."
