McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh believes McLaren's disappointing form will have no bearing on whether Lewis Hamilton decides to stay with the team.
Hamilton finished eighth at the British Grand Prix on Sunday while team-mate Jenson Button was 10th, with neither driver able to challenge for honours. McLaren seem to be struggling for pace and Hamilton admitted after the race he didn't havethe answers for their current problems.
"We tried as hard as we could, but we just didn't have the pace and I don't know why," he said.
"I was in the lead at one point and I don't understand how I could be there and then go all the way back to where I started. I pushed all the way, I did all I could, but..."
He added: "From what I can understand, our strategy was ok. We were very slow in the slow-speed corner but particularly in the high speed. A really tough race. Really tough."
Hamilton, now fourth in the championship and 37 points behind first-placed Fernando Alonso, will be out of contract at McLaren at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to rivals Mercedes. The 27-year-old is now5.50to win this year's championship while Alonso is2.75and Sunday's victor Mark Webber is at6.50.
However, Whitmarsh believes Hamilton will not be swayed by the team's struggles and insists better times are not far away.
"He (Hamilton) knows that (the team will improve), I know that and we're disciplined and battle-hardened enough these days to know that," said Whitmarsh.
"You've got to take stock, learn from these weekends. Sometimes you can learn more from these than the successful ones."
