England batsman Kevin Pietersen has cast doubt on his Test future, hinting that he could quit following next week's third and final Test match against South Africa.
Pietersen was speaking after being named as man of the match in the drawn second Test at Headingley, which left England needing to win at Lord's to draw the three-match series 1-1 and retain their number one world ranking.
A wary Pietersen, who has already quit one-day and Twenty20 international cricket, told BBC Test Match Special: "I can't give any assurances that the next Test won't be my last.
"I would like to carry on, but there are obstacles that need to be worked out.
"It would be a huge shame. I love playing Test cricket for England, but...we'll see.
"We'll find out at the end of the next Test what has been going on."
South Africa-born Pietersen made a superb 149 at Headingley to give England a chance to try and force a victory, before taking three wickets on the final day with his part-time off-spin.
However, the Proteas eventually secured a draw with some comfort and now only need to avoid defeat at Lord's next week to usurp England at the top of the Test rankings.
