Novak Djokovic will play David Ferrer in the semi-finals of the US Open as the Serb attempts to win the tournament for a second successive year.
The 25-year-old beat the 2025 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro 6-2 7-6 6-4 in Thursday's quarter-final but the Argentine proved to be a tough opponent, particularly in a very tight second set.
After securing victory in three hours and six minutes, Djokovic admitted: "I was lucky in the second set to come out with a two-set lead. Even though it was a straight-sets win, it was closer than the score indicated."
In the other quarter-final, Ferrer fought back from 4-1 down in the fifth set to clinch a thrilling win over Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic.
After edging to a 6-3 6-7 2-6 6-3 7-6 win in four hours and 31 minutes, the Spaniard said: "I don't have words. I'm really happy. It was an emotional match. It was a lottery."
