Serena Williams claimed her fourth US Open title and 15th Grand Slam singles crown by beating Victoria Azarenka in a thrilling Flushing Meadows final.
The 30-year-old American edged to a 6-2 2-6 7-5 victory against the world number one in 138 minutes of dramatic tennis.
Azarenka served for the match at one point but Williams was not to be denied as she clinched victory 13 years after her first US Open title in 1999.
Williams is3.75to win the Wimbledon title again next year while Azarenka is7.00to claim her first success at SW19.
AfterwardsWilliams admitted: "I honestly can't believe I won. I was preparing my runner-up speech because she was playing so great.
"I really think a champion is defined not by their wins but by how they can recover when they fall. I have fallen several times.
"Each time I just get up and I dust myself off and I pray and I'm able to do better or I'm able to get back to the level that I want to be on. So I feel really awesome that I have been able to do that and that I can do that."
