Lee Westwood has moved quickly to dispel suggestions that he is struggling with his game with the Ryder Cup just three days away.

Westwood finished 30th and last in last weekend's Tour Championship, 25 strokes behind winner Brandt Snedeker after a miserable final two days that saw him card rounds of 76 and 74.

The Englishman's performance came just two weeks after he pushed world number one Rory McIlroy all the way in the BMW Championship before having to settle for second place.

But Westwood believes that his decision to return home to England in between the final two FedEx Cup play-off events was largely to blame for his poor display in Atlanta and he will be raring to go and firing on all cylinders when the Ryder Cup action starts at Medinah on Friday.

He said: "I don't get too wound up any more. I don't think the week off came at a good time either. I was playing well then went home and practised on greens far slower than those in the States."

Westwood is8.50to be the top European at the Ryder Cup, with Europe2.50 to win at Medinah and12.00to earn a tie and retain the trophy.

Westwood's performance was in stark contrast to his compatriot Luke Donald who warmed up for this week's tussle against the Americans by carding two successive rounds of 67.

Donald has struggled for large parts of this season to match the heights that took him to the money list titles on both sides of the Atlantic last year but showed his game is coming to the boil nicely ahead of his fourth Ryder Cup appearance.

Donald said: "I wasn't really too worried about my game, it just wasn't quite happening the last three play-off events.

"We're going to have to be aggressive straight from the get-go. I think the Americans play quite an aggressive game, so we are going to have to go out there and get off to a quick start."
