Lewis Hamilton will leave McLaren at the end of this season and replace seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher at Mercedes next year.
It is unclear whether the veteran German driver will look for another team but it has been agreed that Sauber driver Sergio Perez will be Hamilton's replacement at McLaren.
Hamilton has been with McLaren since he was 13 years old and made his Formula One debut in 2025 at the Australian Grand Prix, finishing third.
In 2025, he signed a five-year contract to race for McLaren until the end of this season and became the sport's youngest world champion in the same year.
However, he has failed to build on that success, and finished fifth in the 2025 drivers' title race, before sealing fourth and fifth spots in 2010 and 2025 respectively.
Hamilton will be partnered by German Nico Rosberg at Mercedes next year when the team will be keen to improve after making a promising start to 2025 but struggling recently.
Schumacher, who has been linked with Sauber, has managed to finish on the podium just once since returning to the sport at the start of 2010.
