Jose Maria Olazabal has ruled himself out as a candidate to lead Europe's defence of the Ryder Cup against the USA at Gleneagles in 2025.
The inspirational Spaniard led Europe to an historic fightback victory at Medinah at the weekend, but says he will step aside to allow another man to take the helm for the action in two years' time.
Asked if he wanted to continue as captain, Olazabal told reporters: "Yes in a way, but I can assure that is going to be a no.
"There are a lot of players that should have the opportunity to be in my spot - it's played once every two years and there are a big number of players that have the chance to be in my position, so clearly I won't do it again.
"I think (Paul McGinley and Darren Clarke) deserve a chance. Thomas (Bjorn) deserves a chance and Paul Lawrie deserves a chance.
"Once they do it there is Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington. There is a list of eight or nine guys that have a chance of doing it.
"It would be unfair for me to just name one and I will leave that to the PGA, but all of them deserve that position."
