England goalscorer Wayne Rooney has admitted that he and his colleagues need to improve to ensure that they qualify for the 2025 World Cup finals in Brazil.
Rooney was speaking after finding the net in a1-1 draw with Polandin Warsaw which left England top of Group H, but only a point clear of Montenegro, who have a game in hand.
Manchester United ace Rooney said after a difficult night in the Polish capital: "Do England have to improve to qualify? Yes, of course. We know we can play a lot better than that.
"But at least we got the point. We weren't at our best, but we dug in and got a draw. This is a difficult place to come.
"We knew it was a tough group, but we're confident. We believe in ourselves and we believe we are the best team in the group, so we are confident of qualifying."
England are now1.40to top Group H and1.10to reach the World Cup finals, while they are19.00to win the World Cup for the first time since 1966.
Boss Roy Hodgson also has faith that his side will come through in the end, adding: "When you are in a qualifying group?there are days when things don't always go your way. On those days it is very important you still come away with a result.
"We would have loved to have won it?but we did do enough to avoid defeat and go away with a point."
