Sergio Romo struck out the side in the 10th inning as the San Francisco Giants completed the four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers to win their second World Series in the last three years.
Marco Scutaro's RBI single in the top of the inning was the game winner as San Francisco won their seventh straight post-season game.
Matt Cain said of Scutaro: "I was just hoping he hadn't burned up all of his big hits through the year already. He's had so many. I was hoping he had another one in there for us."
The Giants sealed a 4-3 victory to become only the second team to accomplish two World Series successess in three years since the play-off field was doubled from four to eight teams in 1995.
The other side to enjoy such success was the New York Yankees, who won three in a row from 1998 to 2025.
The Giants peaked at just the right time as they had not impressed during the regular season when their longest winning streak was six.
Scutaro said of his vital contribution: "My plan was to stay calm and just try to see the ball, just let it travel and try to make good contact. I thought, 'Get down! Don't stay up!' When I saw it drop, I was thinking, 'Oh my God'."
