Sebastian Vettel was relieved to win a third consecutive drivers' title after admitting that "everything that could go wrong went wrong" during the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver span off the track on the first lap at Interlagos before fighting his way back through the field and eventually finishing sixth. That proved to be enough to clinch his third title as Fernando Alonso could onlycome insecond.
"It was unbelievable but the most important thing throughout the season - I think it was the toughest we had - is that we always kept believing and we remained ourselves," said Vettel afterwards.
"It's very difficult to find the right words, especially after the race. I think that everything that could go wrong went wrong but we always kept believing instead of getting angry and frustrated about the situation.
"Imagine yourself; you are the wrong way around at turn four; I had a lot of cars coming and I was in the wrong way. Then I went off the brakes because everyone is going in this direction so to join them I tried to roll downhill and avoid cars driving backwards."
In his final race for McLaren, Lewis Hamilton failed to finish after being hit by Force India's Nico Hulkenberg so his team-mate Jenson Button came home first. Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was third in his home country.
