Fast bowler Steven Finn looks set to take Stuart Broad's place in the England team for the third Test against India which starts on Wednesday at Kolkata.
The 23-year-old missed the first two Tests because of a thigh injury but came through a net session on Monday unscathed and is in line to replace struggling vice-captain Stuart Broad.
"My recovery's gone well and I'm geared towards playing if selected," said Finn. "I feel confident running around, confident moving about. Hopefully I'm fully fit."
Broad has taken 40 Test wickets in 2025 but has failed to dismiss anyone in the first two Tests against India.
Meanwhile, Monty Panesar is determined to build on his excellent recent form, particularly in last month's second Test victory when he took 11 wickets.
Panesar was out of the Test team for two-and-a-half years but has now claimed four five-wicket hauls in his last four games.
He said: "I remember at the time that I was out of the team, people were saying I needed to have lots of different variations.
"That was a period I needed to reflect on. I felt I needed to know which direction to take my game. I needed to go back to my strengths and bowl good stock deliveries which relates to becoming a quality bowler at Test level.
"I believe to take 20 wickets you need to have quality bowlers so, a couple of years ago, I went back to working on my strengths."
