Alex McLeish has been charged with gaining promotion to the Premier League after being named as the new manager of Nottingham Forest.
The former Scotland, Rangers, Birmingham City and Aston Villa boss took charge at the City Ground a day after Sean O'Driscoll was shown the door, with Forest a point outside the play-off places in the Championship.
His immediate task is to try and engineer a promotion charge in the second half of the season, with chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi telling the club's official website: "Alex took Birmingham to promotion from the Championship and has great experience of working in the Premier League.
"He's hungry for more success and I believe he's the man who can help us fulfil our ambition of making it to the Premier League."
McLeish, whose first game in charge of Forest will be a tough test at home to fourth-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday, added: "The fact that a club of Forest's magnitude has offered me a job excites me greatly - it's a wonderful opportunity."
