Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that he will not quit even though his struggling side are in danger of being relegated this season.

Villa have endured a terrible run of form, culminating in last week's Capital One Cup exit to Bradford City and FA Cup fourth round defeat at Championship side Millwall.

Villa,2.00to be relegated this season, face fellow strugglers Newcastle United on Tuesday in a game that they can be backed at9.50to win 1-0.

As well as being knocked out of the two domestic cups this month, Villa have only taken two points from their last six Premier League games, but club owner Randy Lerner has backed Lambert to pull the club out of the mire.

When asked if there was any chance he would quit, former Colchester United and Norwich City manager Lambert said: "No. I can only do, or try to do my best. There's no chance I'd walk away from it. You have to fight like anything to get up. You pick yourself up and there's no point in lying down and accepting it.

"I've never had a run like this as a manager or been hit from pillar to post like this. It's an experience you take on board and you use it. You can't have everything going your way in your managerial career every single time. You have to take the rough with the smooth and when the rough comes you take it."

Full-backs Stephen Warnock and Alan Hutton are set to join West Ham United and Real Mallorca respectively but there have not been any new arrivals at Villa Park this month.

Fabian Delph will miss the crucial Newcastle match with an ankle injury, but Nathan Baker has resumed training after a recent hamstring problem and will be available.
