Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes his side has been improving all season as he prepares for the Europa League clash against Zenit St Petertsburg.
The Reds face an uphill task if they are to qualify for the last 16 of the competition after losing last week's first leg in Russia 2-0, but Rodgers was impressed with his team's attitude in the 5-0 demolition of Swansea City at the weekend.
Although Liverpool are in danger of going another season without a trophy following their early exits from the FA Cup and Capital One Cup, Rodgers is adamant that progress has been made this term.
Liverpool are34.00to win the Europa League and15.00to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
Rodgers said: "The development of the group since I came in - it was never going to be a bolt of lightning. It was never going to be immediate, sudden impact. It was going to be over a little period.
"What I have learned from the group is that process of learning has taken place. We have obviously shot ourselves in the foot a number of times but it doesn't mean there hasn't been development.
"We are making progress and beating Zenit would certainly help that appetite going forward. We will put everything into the game to win and get through. If we can do that it would be a great tonic for us."
