Jonathan Trott has admitted that England face a massive challenge if they are to avoid defeat in the first Test against New Zealand in Dunedin.
After the first day was washed out, the tourists were bowled out for 167 on day two, before the Black Caps piled on 131 without loss in the final session to take total control of the game.
New Zealand are now1.80to win in Dunedin, with the draw2.30, while England are15.00to secure an unlikely victory.
Trott, who top-scored with 45 for England, said "We put ourselves under pressure with our performance with the bat.
"We've got a big three days ahead of us. We've faced big challenges like this before. This is going to be a good one if we can pull it off.
"It can't get any worse, you can say that.
"It's the first day of a three-Test series. There are 13 days of Test cricket left and we hope we can win those."
Apart from Trott, the England top-order failed to fire, with both Nick Compton and Kevin Pietersen dismissed for ducks, while Joe Root made four and captain Alastair Cook was out for ten.
Ian Bell managed 24 and only solid contributions from the lower order ensured that England struggled past 150.
Meanwhile, New Zealand seamer Neil Wagner, who took four wickets as England were routed, said that the day could hardly have gone any better for the hosts.
He added: "We're in the position that every team can only dream of at the moment."
