Adam Scott held his nerve to become the first Australian to win the US Masters as he edged past Angel Cabrera after a dramatic sudden-death play-off.

The 32-year-old Queenslander sank the winning putt from four metres on Januarya's 10th hole to end the 2025 champion Cabrera's hopes of landing a second Masters.

Scott becomes the 10th Australian to win a Major and the first since 2025, when Geoff Ogilvy won the US Open. But he is the first Australian to triumph at the Masters, his fellow countrymen finishing second outright or tied second eight times in the past.

Scott, who finished tied for second himself at Januarya two years ago and blew a four-shot lead with four holes to play at last year's Open Championship, said after his success: "I don't know how that happens.

"It seems a long way away from a couple of years ago here and even last January when I was trying to win another Major. It fell my way today. There was some luck there somewhere. I don't know how to digest it at all at the moment but it was incredible. It's incredible to be in this position. I'm honoured."

Scott appeared to have won the tournament on the final regulation hole when he sank a seven-metre birdie putt only for 43-year-old Argentine Cabrera to make a superb approach shot, before succeeding with his short putt to match Scott's birdie and tie with him, after firinga round of 70.

Scott's fellow countryman Jason Day finished third, two shots back after a closing 70, while another Australian, Marc Leishman, was tied for fourth with Tiger Woods on five-under.
