Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has failed to recover from a leg injury and will miss the Champions League final against Bayern Munich at Wembley.
The 20-year-old Germany international had hoped to end his time at Dortmund on the biggest possible stage, before heading to Bayern in the summer.
However, having suffered an injury in the second leg of the semi-final win over Real Madrid, Gotze has been unable to recover in time and is likely to be replaced by Kevin Grosskreutz.
A disappointed Gotze revealed: "It was my great goal to play in the final and I fought hard for it in the last couple of weeks. I'm very sorry that I won't be able to help the team in this crucial match.
"I have full confidence in our team and will of course make the trip to London to support the team as best I can."
Dortmund are3.10to lift the trophy on Saturday evening and are15.00to do so after a penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp says his focus is totally on defeating Bayern and not the possible loss of star striker Robert Lewandowski to their Bundesliga rivals.
"A transfer for Lewandowski is currently not an issue," Klopp told Przeglad Sportowy. "The rest of the team and myself are thinking only about the final."
Lewandowski, who has scored ten times in the Champions League this season, is7.00to open the scoring in the final on Saturday and is4.33to be Dortmund's first goalscorer.
