England captain Alastair Cook is confident that a one-day series loss to New Zealand will not have a big impact on his side's ICC Champions Trophy challenge.
England were beaten by86 runs in Southamptonto fall 2-0 behind in the three-match series with the Black Caps and while Cook accepts that there are problems to ponder, he retains confidence that his side will turn things around.
He told reporters: "It's a concern that the standards we've played to here haven't been good enough, but this will be of little relevance when the Champions Trophy starts.
"Clearly we have been outplayed in these two games. It has hurt us, but we need to learn why (and) get better."
Meanwhile, Cook hopes to have fast bowlers Stuart Broad (knee) and Steven Finn (shin) back in action sooner rather than later to boost his struggling side.
Of the duo's prospects of being ready for the Champions Trophy, which starts on Thursday, Cook added: "They're uncertain, but there are five or six days to go. They've missed two games and have been out for a while, so we'll see.
"Clearly when you lose bowlers of the quality of Broad and Finn, it does leave a hole."
