Australia batsman David Warner is set to miss a large chunk of the Ashes series after being sent to join the Australia A tour of South Africa.
Left-hander Warner missed out on selection for the first Ashes Test against England at Trent Bridge, which started inexplosive fashion at Trent Bridgeon Wednesday.
Now Warner will head off to play in two unofficial Tests against South Africa A, the second of which finishes on 3rd January, right in the middle of the third Test in England.
National selector John Inverarity commented: "David has trained hard and been very supportive of the team and his team-mates during the past few weeks, but his preparation for the first Test was not ideal.
"He is in need of match practice and runs in the longer format and the Australia A games in Zimbabwe and South Africa will provide him with the best possible opportunity.
"David remains a member of the Ashes squad and will return to England at an appropriate time, once we're happy he has had adequate preparation in match conditions."
With Warner on the field as twelfth man Australia made a flying start at Nottingham, bowling their hosts out for 215, however, a rush of late wickets left the Baggy Greens on 75-4 in reply - with the match nicely poised for day two.
