Manchester United have turned down a second bid from Premier League rivals Chelsea for striker Wayne Rooney.
The England international has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge with his future at Old Trafford still somewhat unsettled.
United boss David Moyes stated over the summer that Rooney would act as important cover for Robin van Persie through the Premier League campaign and this is thought to have not sat well with the Three Lions forward.
Jose Mourinho has admitted he is an admirer of Rooney and the Blues are determined to lure the former Evertonian to Stamford Bridge.
However United are reluctant to sell the 27-year-old to another Premier League outfit, as they look to retain their English crown this season.
A spokesman for United said: "A bid was received yesterday (Sunday) and immediately rejected.
"Our position remains that he is not for sale."
