Andy Murray is determined to do well on the North American hardcourts, with the ultimate aim a successful defence of his US Open title.
Murray was speaking after returning to the court for the first time since his Wimbledon triumph, seeing off Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-4 7-6 in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
"I didn't have my timing, especially at the beginning of the second set, but it was good to come through, he's been playing very well," Murray told Sky Sports.
"It's just good to get back on the court. The nerves were there, which I really like.
"It shows that I'm ready to move forward and not focus too much on what happened a few weeks ago. I want to try to do well here in Canada and in the States."
Next up for Murray is a clash with Estonia's Ernests Gulbis, with the Scot1.18 to win the match,1.50to win in straight sets and4.00to need three sets to reach the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, French Open champion Rafael Nadal marked his return to action with a 6-2 6-0 thrashing of Jesse Levine, but fellow Spaniard David Ferrer suffered a shock 6-2 6-4 loss to Alex Bogomolov Jr.
Juan Martin del Potro needed three sets to defeat Croatian Ivan Dodig, coming through 6-4 4-6 7-5.
