Rafael Nadal will be the favourite to win the US Open according to John Isner, the man he defeated in the final of the Cincinnati Masters.
Nadal, who also won the Rogers Cup in Montreal a week ago, beat Isner 7-6 7-6 in the Cincinnati final, a result which will see the Spaniard return to number two in the world rankings ahead of the action at Flushing Meadows.
It also makes Nadal the man to beat at the US Open in Isner's mind, with the American saying: "I would say Rafa is the favourite going to the US Open.
"Clear-cut? I wouldn't say that. I think he'd probably say the same. He certainly is going to be super tough to beat, considering he just won back-to-back Masters events on hardcourts."
Nadal, the 2010 US Open champion, is3.50to win at Flushing Meadows for a second time, with defending champion Andy Murray3.00and world number one Novak Djokovic2.87.
Meanwhile, in the women's final in Cincinnati, Victoria Azarenka struck a psychological blow ahead of the US Open by defeating world number one Serena Williams 2-6 6-2 7-6.
Azarenka,5.00to triumph at Flushing Meadows, has endured a number of injury problems this year, but was delighted with her performance in Cincinnati, saying: "Obviously it's a big win, it was a great match.
"I'm really, really pleased with the way I pulled it out. It was a great battle."
