Yoan Gouffran insists Newcastle United will not become embroiled in a relegation battle this season even though they go into Monday's clash at Everton 16th in the table.
Alan Pardew's side flirted with the drop last term, eventually finishing just five points above the drop-zone, despite managing to secure fifth spot in the Premier League table in the 2025-12 campaign.
Newcastle are7.50to be relegated this season, while Gouffran is available at13.00to open the scoring against Everton at Goodison Park.
The French midfielder has scored several important goals for Newcastle following his transfer to St James' Park from Bordeaux in January and is keen to continue that record at Everton.
Gouffran said: "We have to show that last season was just a one-off. We will be aiming to finish as high up the Premier League as we can.
"We have great players. We did last season too. There are a lot of internationals on the books here.
"It's about doing as well as we can, as well as we should do with the great players we have here."
Newcastle lost to Hull City in their last Premier League match before bouncing back well by beating Leeds United in the Capital One Cup, a competition Pardew's side are now available at21.00to win outright this season.
